Surigao City – If
given the chance to win, the City Agriculture and Fishery Council (CAFC) of the
City of Surigao will be the first Mindanaon CAFC to be crowned as the
Outstanding AFC in the country.
That if Surigao CAFC will successfully outsmart the three
other finalists for the 2012 Gawad Saka Search for Outstanding Agriculture and
Fishery Achievers for municipal and city AFC category.
Recently, four members of the national technical
committee arrived in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte to evaluate and look into
notable accomplishments of the CAFC of Surigao thru the leadership of its
Chairperson Perfecto Lisondra that may bring them one step ahead of the other
contenders vying for the prestigious award.
The four national evaluators were Cristina Parado of the
Bureau of Agricultural Statistics; Marilu Peralta, NAFC Area Coordinator for
Caraga Region; Rosylyn Punongbayan of Livestock Development Council and Cyril
Soliaban, NAFC Executive Assistant. They were accompanied and assisted by the
DA Caraga Team headed by OIC Regional Executive Director Edna Mabeza.
Major criteria for judging were based on Organizational
Structure, Regular Activities for the past two years covering 2010 to 2011 and
Sustainability.
The other three finalists were Municipal Agriculture and
Fishery Council (MAFC) of La Trinidad, Benguet; MAFC of Villa Verde, Nueva
Viscaya; and MAFC of Siblayan, Occidental Mindoro.
It was learned from Cyril Soliaban that winners will
received P200,000.00 worth of projects and P50,000.00 cash prize while its LGU
coordinator will received P25,000.00 cash.
Awarding will be done tentatively on October 16 or 17,
2012 in Malacañan Palace in time with the celebration of the World Food Day and
National AFC Anniversary.
Undertaken thru the National Agriculture and Fishery
Council (NAFC), the Gawad Saka Search
for Outstanding Agriculture and Fishery Achievers basically aim to give
incentives and recognize the group or individuals who excel in their field and
