Bukidnon Army: Out Morales In Martinez
By: Aurell P. Arais

“It is a time of sigh and relief”.

This was the heart pounding message of the outgoing brigade commander of 403rd brigade of the Philippine army based in Camp Osito Bahian, Impalambong, Malaybalay City.

On a simple turn-over ceremony last October 6, 2006 that took place inside the camp, Col. Ricardo Morales formally relinquished his post and passed it on to Col. Florante Martinez, as the new brigade commander.

The event was witnessed by no less then the Brigadier General Jose Barbieto of the 4th Infantry Division based in Cagayan de Oro City, Atty. Archie Francisco Gamboa, PNP Bukidnon provincial director, media practitioners and some distinguished guests.

During his farewell speech, Morales said that he felt sad because he will surely miss the hospitality of Bukidnon people as well as the nice natural beauty and good climate.

“I don’t expect his sudden change of command but being a soldier I am obliged to abide an order from higher headquarter”. I wasn’t able to finish the entire project that I have started especially on strengthening ties with local government officials as well as on you media, Morales said.

As per order, Morales will become the commanding officer of the support unit based in army headquarter in Metro Manila.

He served for about seven months in the province in which during his stay, several NPA rebels were captured and surrendered.

On the other hand, during his speech, Col. Martinez said that he will continue whatever project Morales has started.

In fact his first order as the new brigade commander, he directed all army personnel under his command to continue observe the directive from Morales until unless superceded.

Martinez hailed from his last assignment as army officer based in Mawab, Davao del Norte.
